The Must-Have Essential Oils for Mom & Baby

12/11/2017

Ok, my latest obsession? Essential oils. I'd been hearing more and more about them all over social media and I had to try them (I justified my purchases to my husband as important research). Then, one of my best friends since elementary school AND the founder of Plum Tree Essential Oils started sharing her knowledge with me and I am HOOKED! So, I asked her to share with me (and YOU!) the top essential oils that moms must have!

Wait, What are Essential Oils Anyway?

Ok, so essential oils are naturally occurring compounds found in the seeds, bark, stems, roots, flowers, and other parts of plants. Essential oils protect plans against environmental threats AND they've been used for thousands of years for emotional, cosmetic, medicinal, and even spiritual purposes.

Fun fact: the term essential oil actually comes from the idea of quintessential oil. The philosopher, Aristotle, believed that in addition to the four physical elements (fire, air, earth, and water), there was a fifth element: quintessence. It was considered to be the spirit or life force of the plant!

Ok, So Why Should I Use Them?

Basically, essential oils are a safe and natural alternative to chemical-ridden, synthetic products on the market. The essential oils you use will align with your purpose or need and you can feel good utilizing them for your health and wellness (and, honestly, I'm super into diffusing while meditating lately!)

The 6 Must-Have Essential Oils for Mom & Baby

  1. Lavender - this oil is perfect for all things calming! It is amazing for skin irritations like rashes, scrapes, and bug bites.
  2. Serenity - this blend is incredibly soothing and combines Lavender with other calming oils, including Cedarwood, Marjoram, Roman Camomile, Vetiver, and Hawaiian Sandalwood.
  3. Balance - this blend is grounding, with Spruce, Ho Wood, Frankincense, and Blue Tansy. This oil promotes a sense of relaxation and can be helpful in calming anxious feelings. Many people apply Balance daily to the bottoms of their feet, before starting their day.
  4. On Guard - this is doTERRA's immune support blend. With Wild Orange, Clove, Cinnamon, Eucalyptus and Rosemary, this blend can be used daily – either applied topically along the spine and bottoms of feet (diluted in a roller bottle), in homemade cleaning products, or simply diffused to cleanse the air.
  5. Copaiba - this is doTERRA's new "wonder" oil. It has so many benefits! Copaiba is anti-inflammatory, calms anxiety, is full of powerful anti-oxidants and provides immune support.
  6. Wild Orange - this energizing oil is another one with endless uses and benefits. It is uplifting, refreshing, and blends well with many other oils. Add it to your immune support blends and cleaning products for added cleansing benefits.
