Flying With a Baby

Olivia was 5 months old when we took our first trip - just her and me on a direct flight from Calgary to Prince George. I solicited advice from my Facebook friends and I wanted to share their tips and tricks, as well as my own thoughts on traveling with a little one!
  1. Bring something to chew or suck on during takeoff and landing. If you are breastfeeding, nurse your baby! I've flown upwards of 10 times with Olivia and I have continued to nurse her during these times and she has never had an issue with ear pain (plus, she usually falls asleep!)
  2. Don't be afraid to ask for the seat next to you to be empty, if possible! Extra room is always helpful when you're traveling with a baby, especially if you're by yourself.
  3. Try and go into the situation as unstressed as possible. Babies cry. Toddlers sometimes throw tantrums. If anyone has an issue with it, politely tell them to shove it. But honestly, the majority of people are understanding and being stressed about potential issues won't help anyone!
  4. I've tried various options for checking my stroller, using a baby carrier, etc. Here's what I prefer: I bring my stroller through security so that I can do the door-to-door check. I prefer this to using the carrier because it allows me to walk around the airport easily with her in the stroller. However, for boarding, I will put on my baby carrier and push the empty stroller to the plane door. I've found this to be the easiest, most efficient, and comfortable option for us!
  5. If you can, plan your trips at night or during naptime - baby will be more likely to sleep!
  6. However, also bring toys, small snacks (depending on age), a tablet with some videos or games (this was super helpful when flying with Olivia most recently at 18 months), books, and water. You might feel like a pack-mule but it will be worth it!
  7. If (or, maybe, when) your little one gets upset ... Don't stress! Think: how can I make my baby happy, rather than how can I make her stop crying so it's not bothering other passengers.
I hope this helps and I would LOVE to hear some of your tips for traveling with babies/toddlers!

"Drinking your coffee black is not hard."

I heard this great quote that puts things in perspective regarding my January sugar/dairy detox: Losing a parent is hard. Childbirth is hard. Beating cancer is hard. Drinking your coffee black is not hard.

Ok, I'm not drinking black coffee. But I am drinking it without my coffee creamer indulgence! I'm actually enjoying it blended with ghee (clarified butter) and a dash of cinnamon. It makes a frothy, latte-like drink. You could also add coconut milk (the canned stuff) or almond milk (but check the label for added sugars!!)

Here is a great recipe!

Ingredients
- 1 teaspoon ghee
- 1 teaspoon coconut oil
- 1-2 cup hot coffee
- 1/8 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon unsweetened almond milk (remember to read the label) or canned coconut milk
Directions

1. Put the ghee, coconut oil, almond or coconut milk, cinnamon, and coffee in the blender.
2. Blend for 5-10 seconds. The coffee turns a foamy, creamy colour. Pour into your coffee cup and enjoy!

These are a Few of My Favourite Things

One of my goals for 2017 is to use my website and post more consistently here, so I want to start the year by sharing a few of my favourite things right now!

I am SO obsessed with this Buttered Brazils Lip Balm from Lush. A week ago, my lips were incredibly chapped and dry and I was trying everything. My sister received 2 of these in her order from Lush and she let me have one and it worked instantly!

It's made with organic Brazil nut oil, fair trade shea butter, coconut wax, dark chocolate, cocoa roasted extract, and Fair Trade vanilla. Good enough to eat!

If you're in Lush anytime soon, I would highly recommend grabbing one of these balms!

Olivia received this book as a gift for Christmas and it is amazing. Originally a project on Kickstarter, this book reinvents fairy tales, with inspiring stories of 100 great women, from the past and the present, illustrated by 100 female artists from all over the world.

The stories are empowering, the artwork is stunning, and I know that Olivia will grow up learning about strong women who have changed the world. What more could you ask for?!

Do you use Netflix or some other streaming service? Don't you ever wish that the same services could be applied to other things? Like, sometimes I wish I could just stream some dinner into my house or stream a housecleaner ... Ok, no, that wouldn't really work.

But there IS an option for Sweatflix - the Netflix of workout programs! Beachbody JUST announcted this limited time offer and it's bananas. The Annual All-Access Beachbody On Demand Bundle provides total access to EVERY program available from Beachbody, PLUS future releases for 2017. Everything from the older programs like p0x, Turbofire, Insanity, and 10 Minute Trailer, to newer ones like Cize, t25, Core de Force, 22 Minute Hard Corps, Hammer and Chisel, 21 Day Fix and Fix Extreme, Country Heat and MORE are all available on a digital library that you can access ... AND anything new Beachbody releases, you get INSTANT access to at no additional charge for an entire 12 months. It's the best deal they have EVER had. Why do I love this so much? Here's what you get:
  • 1 Year Membership to Beachbody on Demand (aka Sweatflix) with all content included, plus future releases
  • Shakeology (choice of 30 day supply on home direct)
  • Portion Fix (includes 7-piece portion control container system, eating guide, large blue container, and shaker cup)
  • Business Starter Kit Fee waived if you choose the coach enrollment option

And you get all this for $199 US. No hidden fees. This deal is worth thousands of dollars.

I really love this bundled package because it gives you the flexibility to determine which programs best suit your life at different times through 2017 AND the support of a coach and community to keep you accountable. Fitness is not a 21 day thing or a 60 day thing or a 90 day thing - it's a LIFE thing and that's what this bundled package is all about. Anyone can buy a program but where you see the most peopel getting results is when they have that community of support!

This year is YOUR YEAR! If you are like me and you need structure, support, guidance, and accountability, then Beachbody might be your magic ticket. I am inviting you to take advantage of the All Access Pass and make me your coach. Let me help you achieve your goals of living a healthy and fulfilling life! Whether you want to be part of my accountability and support groups or not, I am here to help! You can sign up for a free account here and I will reach out to you

This guy #mancrushMonday.

He is my biggest supporter and he buys into all my crazy ideas. Whole30? He's cooking an approved recipe. Big business dreams? He tells me they'll be a reality. Personal development suggestions? He agrees to read the book with me.

I am so lucky to have someone in my life is behind me 100% and pushes me to be the best version of me.

(Oh, and I am also obsessed with the Kalegary sweatshirt from Nourish. Sweat. Soul. Click through to check out their website!)
