For most of my life, I have struggled with a fear of being fat, a messed up relationship with food, and a deep-rooted conflict between losing weight and loving myself. I have lost weight with almost every diet on the planet and I have binge-ate my way to over 200 pounds.
I remember how it crushed me when boys in my 5th grade class called me fat. When I was 15, I starved myself all summer in hopes of being skinny and getting a boyfriend. I struggled to keep the weight off once I had a boyfriend. All through my early 20s, I started workout programs, all as punishment for how I felt about my body. I tried the cayenne pepper lemon water detox, I tried cutting carbs, I tried Whole30. If you've heard of Beachbody, you most likely know that they are, hands down, the best source for at-home workouts that actually get you results. I mean, just take a look at their trainers: Tony Horton, Autumn Calabrese, Chalene Johnson, Shaun T... the list goes on! These super-trainers have created some of the most amazing programs to help you to lose weight, get stronger, eat better, and completely transform your health. And there's a new program coming soon!! Want to know the number 1 reason I'm so excited? Because it's only 4 days a week! Look, I don't love working out. I do it because it makes me feel good once I'm finished, it helps me keep my energy up on long working-mom days, and when I don't take care of myself, I'm far more likely to snap at my husband (sorry, babe). LIIFT4, the newest soon-to-be-released workout program, was created by Joel Freeman and all it takes is four days a week and a pair of dumbbells. It's all about lifting weights and HIIT cardio (high intensity interval training). The program is 8 weeks long, with 32 different workouts - yes, you'll do a different workout every single time you press play. Plus, all the workouts are about half an hour long so you're not wasting precious hours of the day getting the results you want! Whether you are brand new to weight-lifting or you want something new to take your fitness to the next level, LIIFT4 was created with everyone in mind. Who will love LIIFT4?
Oh, yeah! All workout programs from Beachbody come with a nutrition guide. I'm basically a child when it comes to figuring out what to eat (can I have ice cream for breakfast, lunch, and dinner?) and it took me years to understand portion control, so these meal plan guides have saved me on the daily. Important Dates June 11, 2018 – You can order your LIIFT4 Bundle and VIP Early Access during our Pre-Sale. July 16, 2018 – VIP Early Access starts. This means if you pre-ordered, you can start LIIFT4 before the full release in October…and be part of my exclusive LIIFT4 Test Group! October 1, 2018 - All Beachbody on Demand members get access to LIIFT4. Want to get your sweat on with me this summer? Fill out the form below to get on my VIP Early Access List! Meal prepping is my secret weapon for losing weight, maximizing time, and cutting grocery costs. People who spend more time thinking about and preparing ahead what they're going to eat make better choices, like incorporating more fruits and veggies (turns out, those are kind of important). Some people think meal planning and prepping is crazy expensive, but it can actually be very kind of your wallet (as well as help you lose some weight around the waist - bonus!).
Ready to get planning and save yourself some serious cash while eating healthier and getting in shape? Here’s how! If you like coconut, it’s hard not to like macaroons. This healthy Coconut Macaroon Superfoods Shake is the answer to indulging your cravings... without 3x the daily recommended intake of sugar. It is filled with plenty of coconut-y goodness, thanks to shredded coconut, coconut milk, and coconut extract. And not only does it taste freakin' delicious, but the Vanilla Shakeology is literally packed with goodness.
I'm talking superfoods from around the world, plus protein, antioxidants, phytonutrients, vitamins, minerals, amino acids, prebiotics, probiotics, digestive enzymes, fibre... Can your macaroon do that? Coconut extract can usually be found in the baking section of your local grocery store. Otherwise, you can buy it at baking supply stores. You could also substitute vanilla extract or almond extract instead; or alternatively, you could simply leave it out altogether. Shaving a bit of dark chocolate on top of your drink takes this drink to a whole other level. A pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg would go well on top too! Girl, let's be honest. How many times have you found yourself eating, not because you were physically hungry, but instead because you were stressed, tired, bored, anxious, angry or __________ (insert appropriate emotion here)? You just might be like me: an emotional eater. But, you don't have to live like this! There are ways to overcome emotional eating.
When we use food to make us feel better, it sets us up for a vicious cycle of possible weight gain, followed by guilt, followed by even more emotional eating. So, here are a few simple tools to use to stop this cycle! As if being a mom isn't hard enough, as if we aren't already tasked with teaching our kids literally everything else in the world, it's our job as parents to instil healthy eating habits that will shape their relationship with food for the rest of their lives. Oh, and to do it without giving them any weird food hang-ups or body-image issues. No pressure!
But in all seriousness, the way you talk to your kids about food and nutrition can have a lasting impact on their health. With the right approach, you can help them build a healthy body image and develop a positive relationship with food — and maybe even sidestep some of the psychological challenges that can make it so hard to lose weight as an adult. So, here are a few helpful tips for talking to your kids about food and helping them learn healthy eating habits. Things I believe to be true:
When my daughter was born in June of 2015, I tried drinking a cheap protein shake from the grocery store. I wanted something that would make a quick breakfast and was healthier than a Pop-Tart. As I studied more about nutrition and health, I learned that most people are not protein-deficient; they are nutrient deficient. I was lucky enough to find something that fills the holes in my diet... something that is so much more than a protein shake. Here are the top reasons you should be drinking Shakeology - the best nutritional supplement for busy moms!
