I know, I know. Everyone and their mama is talking about the importance of self-care for mothers. Well, guess what?! Everyone and their mama is right.

It is really freakin' important. And it's not just spa dates and shopping trips and expensive Starbucks coffees (although it can be those things #treatyoself).

So, what's a mom to do when she's short on cash but in desperate need of a little self-care?

Check out the list below for 44 self-care strategies that won't break the bank!

  1. Take 3 deep breaths.
  2. Try a guided meditation (my favourites come from the Manifestation Babe VIP Tribe)
  3. Take a bubble bath (cliché I know, but it's a self-care cliché for a reason - it works!)
  4. Disconnect from social media for an hour or an afternoon or more; whatever feels good in your soul.
  5. Have a solo-dance party.
  6. Have a dance party with your kids.
  7. Listen to your favourite song.
  8. Ask yourself: Did I drink enough water today? Then, drink some water.
  9. Eat breakfast - don't just cook it for you everyone else.
  10. Call a friend or family member.
  11. Put on make-up and change out of your yoga pants or pjs (even if you're staying home all day).
  12. Wear your pjs all day.
  13. Watch an episode of your favourite show during nap time. Seriously, step away from the household chores. They can wait.
  14. Do the household chore that's on the top of your to-do list; sometimes, self-care is parenting yourself.
  15. Take your vitamins.
  16. Rearrange your furniture.
  17. Drink coffee or tea.
  18. Burn sage and/or palo santo.
  19. Write down 5 things you love about yourself.
  20. Get some fresh air; go for a walk around the block.
  21. Ask someone for help.
  22. Workout - whether it's yoga, cardio, going to the gym, pressing play in your living room, or walking outside, working out = taking care of yourself.
  23. Go to the library.
  24. Window shop online.
  25. Eat a healthy snack.
  26. Eat your favourite snack.
  27. Cuddle your kids, your husband, or your pet.
  28. Listen to a podcast.
  29. Moisturize.
  30. Paint your nails.
  31. Go to bed early.
  32. Meditate or pray.
  33. Find a DIY project and actually do it.
  34. Bake cookies.
  35. Plan out your week.
  36. Watch a funny movie.
  37. Take a power nap.
  38. Read inspiring quotes.
  39. Create a vision board for your life.
  40. Make a smoothie
  41. Make breakfast for dinner.
  42. Try a homemade face mask.
  43. Set goals (and then crush them).
  44. Cross something off your to-do list.
