A Time Management Method To Maximize Your Productivity

Let me be straight up with you: multitasking doesn't work, no matter how hard my husband or the children in our home attempt to argue with me that it does. Your brain literally cannot focus on more than one thing at once. Plus, feeling scattered, overwhelmed, or pulled in a million directions is just not a good time.

So, get your single-tasking on with TIME BLOCKING! By focusing a certain amount of time to one task, you can actually get MORE done.

Basically, time-blocking helps you get the most of your work day by scheduling very specific tasks into very specific blocks of time in your schedule.

It's impossible to pull of a time-block schedule if you don't actually spend some time planning. Google Calendar is the perfect way to plan out your days, weeks, months... heck, why not your year?! Here's a look inside the basics of my week.

The empty spaces in my schedule are generally reserved for spending time with my family, getting Olivia ready for school, or watching an episode of Jane the Virgin on Netflix (I'm currently obsessed!)

By colour-coding your schedule, you can see what you spend the most time on (and, if you've designated a colour to something and you don't see it on your schedule, you'll know what you are leaving out).

I create reoccurring events to help simplify my planning; for example, my workouts, cooking dinner, and the 3 times a week I do laundry.

Benefits of Time-Blocking

With 3 kids in our house with 3 very different schedules, time-blocking has saved my sanity AND made me a more productive mom and business owner. I am more efficient (and realistic) with my to-do lists because I know how much time I have in my day.

I get more done, rather than multi-tasking every business thing I have in my mind. I don't stress nearly as much and I know that if something doesn't get done, that's ok; I can schedule it into tomorrow! Plus, as a stay-at-home mom, I often find myself craving routine and regularity in our schedule; time-blocking has given me just that!
